Word & character counter
Paste an essay, a product description or a listing — the counts update as you type. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Reading time assumes 200 words per minute — the common average for adult readers.
How it works
Every statistic recomputes on each keystroke, entirely in this page. Words are counted by splitting on whitespace; sentences by terminal punctuation (. ! ?); paragraphs by blank lines. Reading time divides the word count by 200 — the widely cited average for adult silent reading.
Frequently asked questions
Does it count words in other languages?
Whitespace-based counting works for any language that separates words with spaces. Languages without spaces (Chinese, Japanese) count characters instead — use the character figure for those.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No — the counter runs in this page and clears when you leave.
