Base64 encoder & decoder
Two directions, Unicode-safe, with a URL-safe toggle. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
How it works
Base64 maps every 3 bytes to 4 characters, which is why encoded text is ~33% longer. This tool encodes via UTF-8 first, so emoji and non-Latin scripts survive the round trip — a common failure in naive implementations that treat each character as one byte.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No — it's a reversible encoding with no secret. Anyone can decode it. Never use it to "hide" passwords or keys.
When do I need the URL-safe variant?
When the encoded value goes into a URL or filename: + and / are replaced with - and _ so the value survives routing.
